Special Posting: Needs for Haiti Mission Trip

From Betsy Barcroft, DDS, MS: Our next trip to Petite Petite Riviere, Haiti is in March 2012. The clinic has been open since 2008 providing the first health clinic for this rural area. The plan is to put a dental suite in the Visitation Clinic by 2013. Haitian dentists  can be hired and  dentists from the US can come help without bringing the contents of their offices. Hopefully this will mean people from this rural area will have access to dental care year round.

If we can have good equipment donated this will allow funds raised to go to actual construction.  I will truly appreciate anything you can do. I promise to put your equipment to good use.

The following is a list of instruments needed. Since the autoclave can only be run midday and at night we need several of each item. Energy (electricity) is limited.

• Knowledge and skill in dental laboratory procedures and techniques.
• Knowledge in dental office organization and management in correctional institution health services unit.

The position requires long periods of sitting while performing chair side assisting, frequent walking and bending. This position requires direct contact with prisoners. Work is perform in a clinic setting where exposure to infectious agents is a possibility.
